Low and high season - pros and cons
The high season (July 15 - August 20) is a guarantee of open attractions, cultural events and a full catering offer. But also: the highest prices (accommodation +25-40%), crowds on beaches and access traffic jams. The low season (June and September) are lower prices (even -30%), smaller occupancy and greater comfort, although with the risk of changing weather. The perfect compromise is the second half of June and the beginning of September - still stable weather, already outside the peak.
Safety on holidays by the sea - important information
In 2025, over 600 guarded bathing areas, supervised by WOPR rescuers, operate on the Baltic Sea. These are places where the risk of drowning is several times lower than on unguarded beaches (MSWIA data). The largest number of water accidents still applies to children and adults bathing after alcohol - despite the ban. A safe holiday at the sea is not only a matter of happiness - it is the result of knowledge of the rules, awareness of threats and choosing the right place of sunbathing. Below specific information that is of real importance in the summer season.
Water rescuers - where are the beaches guarded?
The guarded bathing areas operate from June 24 to August 31, usually from 10:00 to 18:00. The list of beaches with rescuers is updated by WOPR and available on the website bathing.gov.pl. The largest clusters: Gdańsk (10 bathing areas, including Stogi, Jelitkowo), Kołobrzeg (6 zones), Świnoujście (3 episodes), Ustka, Międzyzdroje, Łeba, and Władysławowo. Each swimming pool has an information board with rescuers' data, regulations and colors of flags: white - bath, red - ban, no flag - no supervision. In 2024, 94% of drowning took place outside the guarded zone (data from the Ministry of Interior and Administration).
Safety of children and adults - advice
The most common parents' mistakes are: leaving children unattended, letting in the waves without belaying and lack of sunscreen. It is recommended to: put on bands with a phone number (available at WOPR points), use a cream with SPF 50 filter every 2 hours, a must child hat and fun only in the knee zone. Adults should absolutely avoid alcohol - 26% of drowning applies to people under its influence. In the case of the elderly: do not bathe in the first hour after the meal and with large temperature differences. Most accidents are recorded between 13:00 and 16:00 - a period of intensive sunlight and reduced vigilance.
Place | Number of guarded bathing areas | WOPR duty hours |
---|---|---|

Kolobrzeg | 6 | 10:00–18:00 |
Świnoujście | 3 | 10:00–18:00 |
Bay | 2 | 10:00–18:00 |
