Jazztopad Festival takes place in Wrocław from 13 to 22 November 2026. The 23rd edition brings Wayne Shorter and esperanza spalding’s opera …(Iphigenia), a closing concert by William Parker, Shabaka and Hamid Drake, new commissions and intimate performances in private homes. Main concerts are ticketed individually. The multi-concert package covers the performances you select, rather than giving access to everything.
01 / find your way in
Your first Jazztopad? Start with how you like to listen.
You don’t need to recognise every name on the bill. A sense of what draws you in — a pulse, a single instrument, an unexpected setting — is a better place to start.
Jazztopad stretches across jazz, electronics, traditional music, the human voice and contemporary composition. An orchestral opera, a solo guitar performance and an improvised set in someone’s living room can all belong to the same festival. Pick the experience as well as the artist: listen to a recording before booking, allow time for a longer double bill and check whether the event is seated or standing.
Give me rhythm and energy
SML, Friday 13 November. Bass, drums, guitar, saxophone and synthesisers from a Los Angeles quintet. A promising starting point if you enjoy the overlap between improvisation, electronics and a persistent groove. The opening concert is standing in the Red Hall.
Let me settle into one sound
Raphael Rogiński, Wednesday 18 November. Solo guitar in the Deep Listening series. Make this the focus of an evening: a chance to give one instrument your attention rather than squeeze another stop into a sightseeing checklist.
I want a major occasion
…(Iphigenia), Friday 20 November, or Parker / Shabaka / Drake, Sunday 22 November. One opens jazz out towards opera and orchestra; the other centres on the exchange between three improvisers meeting as a trio for the first time.
These are starting points, not a ranking of how “easy” the music is. An unfamiliar or experimental performance can be the one that stays with you longest.

These are the full published price ranges, including different ticket categories and concessions. The lowest figure is not a promise of an available standard ticket. A double bill in one row is one concert event; availability is shown during booking. Children’s mornings, home concerts and improv sessions are covered separately below.
Leave room between events. The evening programmes on 14, 15, 19 and 21 November are listed at approximately 150 minutes. On Saturday 21 November, that leaves about half an hour between the scheduled finish at NFM and the 22:00 concert at Mleczarnia. Collecting your coat and getting out of the hall takes time too. Check the first event’s running time before buying a second ticket.
03 / follow your curiosity
What makes the 23rd edition worth a trip?
The draw is in the combinations: artists sharing a stage, new work meeting its audience and familiar instruments taking an unfamiliar turn. These six evenings offer different ways into the programme.
20 Nov · Friday · 19:00
…(Iphigenia): Shorter and spalding on an orchestral scale
Wayne Shorter wrote the music; esperanza spalding wrote the libretto. Wrocław hosts a concert performance of their three-act opera. That distinction matters when you book: come for the voices, orchestral writing and musical drama, with no expectation of a fully staged theatrical production.
The performers include spalding, Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci and Brian Blade, alongside the NFM Choir and NFM Wrocław Philharmonic conducted by Clark Rundell. Allow approximately 120 minutes, including an interval. The concert will be recorded, and latecomers may not be admitted. Give yourself a comfortable arrival margin.
22 Nov · Sunday · 19:00
Parker, Shabaka and Drake: a first meeting as a trio
William Parker plays double bass, Shabaka tenor saxophone and clarinet, and Hamid Drake drums. The finale is their first performance together in this trio. It is a compelling choice if you want to hear an evening develop through the musicians’ immediate responses to one another.
Think of it as a conversation rather than a faithful run-through of a familiar album. The scheduled duration is around 90 minutes. If you are taking a train afterwards, add time to leave the building, collect your coat and reach the station.
14 Nov · Saturday · 19:00
SUTARInova and Amir ElSaffar: voices, electronics and microtones
SUTARInova brings together voices, traditional instruments and electronics, with Shahzad Ismaily joining the premiere project. The second part features Amir ElSaffar’s quartet with Tania Giannouli on microtonal piano, Ole Mathisen and Tomas Fujiwara.
Choose this evening if you are curious about tone colour and different musical systems. Microtones open up pitches between the notes of a conventional piano keyboard. The full programme runs for approximately 150 minutes, in the Main Hall with a reversed stage layout; check the seating configuration when booking.
19 Nov · Thursday · 19:00
Nduduzo Makhathini and strings: a new festival commission
After Darius Jones Trio, with Gerald Cleaver and Chris Lightcap, pianist Nduduzo Makhathini appears with Lutosławski Quartet. His festival commission is titled Modalities of Same-ness: Unity Suite.
This is an evening for anyone interested in the meeting point between improvisation and chamber strings. The quartet comprises Roksana Kwaśnikowska, Marcin Markowicz, Artur Rozmysłowicz and Maciej Młodawski. Both parts take place in the Red Hall, with a combined running time of approximately 150 minutes.
21 Nov · Saturday · 19:00
Musho and DoYeon Kim: the voice as an instrument
Musho pairs vocalist Sofia Jernberg with pianist Alexander Hawkins, joined here by Hamid Drake. The second part belongs to DoYeon Kim’s quartet, bringing voice and the gayageum, a Korean zither, into the same musical space.
Kim performs with Mat Maneri, Nick Dunston and Satoshi Takeishi. Consider this evening if unusual combinations of sound appeal to you, especially singing that reaches beyond the conventions of a song. The approximately 150-minute programme uses the Main Hall’s reversed stage layout.
15 Nov · Sunday · 18:00
Dálava and Inner Spaces: song, electronics and space
Dálava reimagines Moravian songs through Julia Úlehla’s voice, Aram Bajakian’s guitar and Josh Zubot’s violin. Afterwards, Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch and Amir ElSaffar combine electronics and trumpet in Inner Spaces.
Pay attention to the format: this event uses both the Red Hall and the Black Hall, with part of the programme standing. Allow roughly 150 minutes for the complete evening, rather than treating the two names as separate short concerts you can fit around other plans.
A festival built around new encounters
The National Forum of Music organises Jazztopad, with Piotr Turkiewicz its artistic director since 2008. Commissions and projects created specifically for the festival are central to its identity. A New York edition has also taken place since 2015; the Wrocław event has its own November programme.
Jazztopad is a different festival from Jazz nad Odrą and from Vertigo’s summer concerts. If you are staying longer or planning another visit, our guide to jazz in Wrocław will help you explore the wider scene.

Jazztopad tickets: prices and the 25% concert package
There is no single admission price for the whole festival. Book individual events, or build a discounted package if you want at least four different concerts.
One or two evenings
PLN 30–265Full published concert price range
Mleczarnia’s special concerts and Shahzad Ismaily’s Deep Listening solo have a PLN 30–60 range. Raphael Rogiński is PLN 30–90; SML and Dálava / Inner Spaces PLN 30–115. Several larger double bills are PLN 35–155. …(Iphigenia) is PLN 70–265.
The ranges include ticket categories and concessions, not guaranteed availability at every price. Choose the appropriate category, check whether you qualify for a concession and confirm the total before paying. PLN and the Polish symbol “zł” mean the same currency.
At least four concerts
25% offSelect four or more different concerts
The Jazztopad karnet is a build-your-own multi-concert package. Choose standard or concessionary tickets, then add at least four different concerts from the eligible list. The discount is applied automatically, and you receive a separate ticket for each selected event.
It is not an all-access festival wristband. Home concerts, cinema events and performances outside your selection are not automatically included. Check the available choices in the booking tool. Package tickets are non-refundable.
A few checks that make booking easier
- Match the hall name to your ticket. NFM is short for Narodowe Forum Muzyki, the National Forum of Music. Sala Czerwona means Red Hall, Sala Czarna Black Hall, and Sala Główna ORLEN the Main Hall. “Na stojąco” means standing; “estrada w odwróceniu” identifies a reversed stage layout.
- Check what one ticket covers. Two acts in a double bill share one concert event. A later Mleczarnia concert is a separate booking. Don’t assume that a free improv session makes every club performance free.
- Save your tickets before leaving your accommodation. Mobile reception inside NFM can be limited. Keep an offline copy and agree a meeting point if you are arriving separately.
- Arrive with time to spare. Around 30 minutes before the start is a useful allowance for the cloakroom and finding your hall. Leave longer for a busy event or if you need assistance.
You can also buy through the NFM box office at plac Wolności 1. Reservations: +48 71 715 97 00 or rezerwacje@nfm.wroclaw.pl. Regular hours are weekdays 11:00–18:00, with a break from 15:00 to 15:30, and Saturdays 13:00–18:30. On concert days it stays open until the performance starts; on Sundays it opens two hours beforehand. Immediately before a performance, sales focus on that event.
Book a plan you can actually attend. The concert ticket terms state that refunds are unavailable. Check dates, running times and travel arrangements before buying overlapping events or committing to a four-concert package.
05 / closer to the musicians
Home concerts, Mleczarnia and artist talks
Private homes: 14–15 and 21–22 November
The home concerts take place on both festival Saturdays and Sundays: 14, 15, 21 and 22 November, at 12:00 and 14:30. Each lasts about an hour. You discover the performers when you arrive: the surprise is part of the format, so choose this experience for its intimacy rather than a presumed appearance by a particular star.
These are private homes, not additional NFM halls. Confirm the address, admission arrangements and how to obtain a place for the specific performance. Don’t head to plac Wolności expecting to be directed to any available apartment, and don’t assume your concert package covers admission. Ask about stairs, a lift and seating before reserving if those matter to your visit; NFM’s building facilities do not describe an apartment venue.
Mleczarnia: ticketed concerts and free improv sessions
The festival club is Klubokawiarnia Mleczarnia, ul. Pawła Włodkowica 5. On Saturday 14 November at 22:30, CloseUp at Jazztopad features My Trio, Emmanuel Michael, Solomon Gottfried and Sundogs. On Saturday 21 November at 22:00, Sissel Vera Pettersen and Meredith Bates perform. Both are separately ticketed concerts, with published prices of PLN 30–60.
The Jazztopad Improv Sessions with Sundogs and guests are a separate strand with free admission. The first session is scheduled for 13 November at 21:30; later sessions follow the NFM concerts. Confirm the evening and start time you intend to attend. Free entry to an improv session does not cover either of the special ticketed club concerts.
Meet the artists — in English
Talks hosted by Sarah “Flake” Grosser take place in the NFM foyer before selected concerts. They are conducted in English, making them a particularly useful way for international visitors to get closer to the programme. The first is scheduled for 13 November at 18:00. Check the participants and subject for your chosen evening; there is not necessarily a talk before every performance.
06 / young ears welcome
Jazztopad with children: Jazz Morning Kids!
For families, the gentlest starting point is Jazz Morning Kids! at Kino Nowe Horyzonty, screen 9, ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego 19a–21. Short animated films are accompanied by live music. It is its own family event, rather than a shortened version of a late-night jazz concert.
- Sunday 15 November, 10:00. A short animation programme including Szalik, Pierwszy podmuch zimy and Nietoperze i robaki. Recommended for ages 3+, approximately 35 minutes, PLN 25.
- Sunday 22 November, 10:00. Ub Iwerks’s Flip the Frog cartoons, approximately 35 minutes, presented with the 17th TAURON American Film Festival. Check the cinema’s programme for the ticket price and booking arrangements.
Both mornings feature Kuba Lechki on drums and Rafał Karasiewicz on organ and electronics. The 3+ recommendation applies to the 15 November programme; check the age guidance and language needs of other events separately. For an evening concert, think about your child’s comfort with volume and duration as well as their interest in music.
Afterwards, choose one more activity and leave room for food and a break. Our Wrocław with kids guide has ideas for the rest of the day. In November, a plan that lets you shorten a walk is often the most comfortable one.
07 / arrive ready to listen
Festival venues, getting there and accessibility
Most of the principal venues are in central Wrocław. Keep their Polish names and street addresses handy: those are the names you will see on signs and tickets.
National Forum of Music
plac Wolności 1The audience entrance faces plac Wolności. It is a short walk from Rynek, the Market Square. From Wrocław Główny, the main railway station, allow around 20–25 minutes on foot, depending on your pace and station exit.
Mleczarnia
ul. Pawła Włodkowica 5Allow roughly 5–10 minutes to walk from NFM, plus time to leave the hall and collect your coat. A late club concert is a separate part of the evening with its own admission arrangements.
Kino Nowe Horyzonty
ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego 19a–21Jazz Morning Kids! takes place in screen 9. The cinema is roughly a 5–10-minute walk from NFM. Add time to find the screen and collect any tickets.
Trams, buses and the journey home
Useful stop names around NFM include Narodowe Forum Muzyki, Opera, Świdnicka and Renoma. Plan the journey for your actual date and time; roadworks and temporary diversions can affect routes. When looking up a destination, use the Polish stop name rather than an English translation.
For a 22:00 or 22:30 club start, check your return journey before heading out. A starting time alone is not enough to judge whether you can catch the last train, especially for an improv session without a fixed finish. All times in this guide are Wrocław local time.
Driving: parking under plac Wolności
A paid underground car park sits beneath plac Wolności, with access from ul. Krupnicza or from ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego via ul. Zamkowa. Allow extra time around a major performance and check the operator’s current tariff. The car park is not operated by NFM.
Access, seating and the cloakroom
NFM has lifts, accessible toilets and wheelchair spaces. Arrange the space and any assistance you need when booking: +48 71 715 97 00. A standing event or reversed stage layout needs its own check even if you have visited the building before.
Leave outerwear in the cloakroom; its location depends on your hall. Ask in advance about large suitcases or specific requirements. Confirm access at Mleczarnia, the cinema and private homes separately. Comfortable clothes and shoes for the walk between venues are more useful than trying to guess a particular jazz dress code.
Will I need to speak Polish?
Instrumental performances can be enjoyed without Polish, and the artist talks are in English. That does not establish the language of every sung or spoken element. For the opera or a film event, confirm the performance language and availability of surtitles or subtitles before buying if you rely on them. The English version of a listing is a visitor guide, not a promise that the event itself is in English.
08 / make a weekend of it
Two ways to plan a Jazztopad weekend
Choose your concert and book it first, then build the city around it. An unhurried afternoon makes for a better evening than arriving at the doors at the last minute.
13–15 November
A weekend of discoveries
- Friday: arrive, settle in and have an early dinner in the centre before SML at 19:00. Decide on an improv session according to how you feel after travelling.
- Saturday: explore the Market Square and university quarter earlier in the day. Make Melting Pot at 17:00 or the 19:00 double bill your main musical stop. The late CloseUp concert needs a separate ticket.
- Sunday: try the family cinema morning or a home concert with confirmed admission. If you choose Dálava / Inner Spaces in the evening, plan a late journey home or another night’s stay.
20–22 November
Opera and the closing concert
- Friday: keep the evening for …(Iphigenia). Eat beforehand and arrive early: the recorded performance has particular implications for late entry.
- Saturday: choose a walk or one exhibition before Musho / DoYeon Kim at 19:00. Add the 22:00 Mleczarnia duo only after considering the first concert’s length and the transfer.
- Sunday: leave the day fairly open before the finale at 19:00. For a train afterwards, factor in approximately 90 minutes of music, leaving NFM and the journey to the station.
Wrocław’s Christmas Market opens on 20 November, so the second festival weekend can combine daytime browsing with evening music. Leave the Market Square before your concert becomes a deadline. November daylight is short; use the earlier part of the day for outdoor exploring and keep an indoor option in reserve.
For accommodation, the Old Town and the Four Denominations District are convenient for NFM and Mleczarnia. Check room noise and arrival arrangements, especially if you expect to return late. If you are coming for one concert, compare the full cost of the trip — ticket, transport and a possible overnight stay — rather than choosing solely by the lowest advertised admission price.
09 / before you go
Jazztopad 2026: your questions answered
When is Jazztopad in Wrocław in 2026?
The 23rd Jazztopad Festival runs from 13 to 22 November 2026. SML opens the festival on 13 November at 19:00; William Parker, Shabaka and Hamid Drake close it on 22 November at 19:00. Times are local to Wrocław.
Where are the concerts?
The main venue is the National Forum of Music, NFM, at plac Wolności 1. Club events take place at Mleczarnia, Włodkowica 5; children’s mornings at Kino Nowe Horyzonty. There are also concerts in private homes, and Shahzad Ismaily’s solo uses a surprise venue.
How much are Jazztopad tickets?
Published concert price ranges run from PLN 30 to PLN 265, including different categories and concessions. …(Iphigenia) is PLN 70–265. A PLN 30 starting price does not mean a standard ticket at that price is available for every concert. The children’s morning on 15 November is PLN 25.
Is there an all-access festival pass?
The Jazztopad karnet gives a 25% discount when you select at least four different eligible concerts. You receive a ticket for each selected event. It is not an all-access pass to every concert, apartment performance and cinema event.
Are any events free?
The Mleczarnia improv sessions have free admission. The special club concerts on 14 and 21 November are ticketed separately. Confirm the date and start time of the session you want; free entry does not mean unlimited capacity.
Can I bring children?
Jazz Morning Kids! at Kino Nowe Horyzonty takes place on 15 and 22 November at 10:00, with each programme lasting approximately 35 minutes. The 15 November morning is recommended for ages 3+. Check age guidance and arrangements for other events individually.
Are all NFM concerts seated?
No. SML in the Red Hall on 13 November is standing. Dálava / Inner Spaces uses the Red and Black Halls, with part of the evening standing. Some Main Hall performances have a reversed stage layout. Check the arrangement for your particular ticket.
Which concert should I choose for a first visit?
For rhythm and electronics, consider SML. For a concentrated solo performance, try Raphael Rogiński. For a large-scale work with orchestra, look at …(Iphigenia). Listen to the artist beforehand and choose a duration and setting that suit you.
Can I combine Jazztopad with the Christmas Market?
Yes, during the 20–22 November 2026 weekend. The market opens on 20 November. Visit earlier in the day and leave time to reach NFM; Friday’s opera starts at 19:00.
Is Jazztopad suitable for English-speaking visitors?
Yes: the instrumental music does not require Polish, and the artist talks are conducted in English. For opera, films and other spoken or sung content, confirm the performance language and any surtitles or subtitles individually.

The festival overview and the improv-session detail page differ on the dates: the overview gives 13–16 and 18–22 November, while the session description gives 13–15 and 18–22 November. We therefore do not assign one confirmed start time to every evening in those ranges. An earlier city announcement confirms free admission but gives a narrower set of dates. The first session is listed for 13 November at 21:30.
The researched event pages do not clearly establish apartment addresses, admission distribution or home-concert prices, or the price of the children’s morning on 22 November. Figures from previous editions have not been substituted. GetYourGuide activities are separate sightseeing bookings and do not include Jazztopad concert admission.
