For a shorter outing, consider the areas around Trzebnica, Jelcz-Laskowice or Oleśnica. Allow more time for the forests near Milicz. Choose the Ślęża Massif mainly for a hilly walk; plan any picking strictly outside nature reserves.

Trzebnica woodlands
Head north of Wrocław for a walk among gentle hills. Las Bukowy in Trzebnica is a recreational woodland: use it as a landmark, then check boundaries and signs before choosing a place to pick.
- Getting there
- About 30–35 km to Trzebnica; roughly 35–55 minutes by car. KD trains serve Trzebnica; plan the onward walk into the woods separately.
- On the ground
- Undulating ground. For a first family visit, choose a short section of familiar paths and return the same way.
Milicz forests · Barycz Valley
An option when you can devote most of the day to your trip. Look for accessible forests around Milicz and Krośnice. Ponds and woodland roads add interest, but picking is not permitted everywhere.
- Getting there
- About 55–70 km, depending on your starting point; roughly 60–90 minutes by car. Rail travel to Milicz is possible: check the service and onward journey.
- On the ground
- A large area with many similar junctions. Download an offline map and save the point where you start walking.
Ślęża Massif · around Sobótka
A woodland outing for visitors comfortable with more demanding ground. Do not treat the path to the summit of Ślęża as a mushroom-picking route. Identify a permitted area and plan your walk in advance.
- Getting there
- About 40–50 km to the Sobótka area; roughly 45–70 minutes by car. Trains reach Sobótka; you will then need to walk to your chosen starting point.
- On the ground
- Climbs, roots and slippery stones. With children, choose a short route at the foot of the hills; do not assume it is suitable for a pushchair.
Jelcz-Laskowice woodlands
Combine a woodland walk with a relatively short journey. Oława Forest District lists parking places, including one in the Jelcz forestry area on the Stary Otok–Jelcz-Laskowice road. Check current notices before travelling.

- About 30–40 km; roughly 40–60 minutes by car. KD trains serve Jelcz-Laskowice; the station itself is not a woodland entrance.
- On the ground
- Use accessible paths and allow for mud or waterlogged sections after rain. Check parking on the forest district’s map.
Woodlands around Oleśnica
The name Las Oleśnicki is often used loosely. Instead of looking for a single entrance with that name, choose a specific accessible woodland near Oleśnica and check it in the Forest Data Bank.

- About 30–45 km to the area; roughly 35–60 minutes by car. Taking a train to Oleśnica requires an onward walk or another transport connection.
- On the ground
- A practical option if you choose a short section and a clear return point yourself. We do not claim there is a marked mushroom-picking circuit.

Autumn is a popular time for mushroom picking in Lower Silesia, though some species appear earlier in the year. No date guarantees a full basket. Look at recent rain, ground moisture, temperatures and frost.
September
After suitable rainfall, consider your first autumn outings. A long dry spell may mean very few mushrooms.
October
A good month for an autumn walk. Shorter daylight hours call for an earlier return; the month alone is no evidence of a flush.
November
Conditions become less predictable. Frost, wet leaves and early darkness favour a shorter route.
Which mushrooms are associated with these forests?
Pickers look for porcini, bay boletes, slippery jacks, rough-stemmed boletes and chanterelles. Tree species and local conditions influence what grows: a town name cannot guarantee a particular mushroom. We deliberately do not mark any spot as a guaranteed harvest.

Where is picking allowed?
- *Picking for personal use in State Forests is free. Travel and parking may cost extra.
- Exclude nature reserves, national parks, young plantations up to 4 m tall and other restricted areas. Do not collect protected species.
- A landscape park and a nature reserve have different protection rules. Check individual reserve boundaries in the Barycz Valley and Ślęża Massif.
- Leave your car in a permitted place. A road appearing in a navigation app is not permission to drive through the forest.
- Do not damage the forest floor or unfamiliar mushrooms. Respect signs, forestry work and private property.

Where can I pick mushrooms close to Wrocław?
Consider the areas around Trzebnica, Jelcz-Laskowice and Oleśnica for shorter outings. These are general areas, not guaranteed mushroom spots. Choose a specific woodland and check access before travelling.
Are there mushrooms near Wrocław right now?
We do not confirm current mushroom growth. Weather may be favourable, but a rain forecast is not a report from the forest. Check local notices and make a woodland walk your main plan, with picking a possibility.
Can I pick mushrooms on Ślęża?
Not within the Góra Ślęża, Góra Radunia or Łąka Sulistrowicka nature reserves. Check local restrictions in other woodlands. A summit trail is not automatically a permitted picking route.
Can I pick near the Milicz Ponds?
Not inside the Stawy Milickie nature reserve, including its wooded sections. Choose accessible forest outside the reserve after checking boundaries and closures.
Where can I go without a car?
Trains serve Trzebnica, Jelcz-Laskowice, Sobótka, Oleśnica and Milicz, among other towns. Check the timetable, return connection and walk from the station to your chosen woodland for each option.
How much does mushroom picking cost?
Picking for personal use in accessible State Forests is free. Budget separately for tickets, fuel and any parking charges. There is no single price for the whole trip.
Where should I go with children?
Choose a short walk on familiar, accessible paths, for example around Trzebnica. Do not promise a harvest, keep children in sight and do not let them taste mushrooms. Check pushchair access for the exact path.
Can an app or AI identify a mushroom?
