South Park (Park Południowy) in Wrocław is one of the most popular parks in the Krzyki district – ideal for a walk, photos, relaxation and a family outing in the fresh air. It is located in the Borek neighbourhood, between Powstańców Śląskich Street and Sudecka Street, and its late-19th-century layout has preserved the elegant, “resort-like” atmosphere of the southern part of the city. The central pond, Bender Hill, the Chopin monument, old trees and a network of winding alleys create a place that residents return to in every season.
This guide will show you exactly what can be found in South Park, how to plan your walk, where to take the best photos and which spots are essential during your visit.
History and creation of the park
South Park was created between 1892–1896 as a representative landscape park funded by Wrocław entrepreneur and philanthropist Julius Schöttländer. The design was prepared by Hugo Richter, the director of municipal gardens, combining a free arrangement of alleys with distinctive architectural accents: a terrace above the pond, viewpoints and composed greenery. From the very beginning, the park became a favourite walking area for residents of southern Wrocław.

Spatial layout and nature
The park covers around 25–27 ha and is based on a central axis with the pond and wide meadows. The network of alleys follows a natural layout, creating numerous viewpoints and intimate corners. It is a place where old-growth trees are clearly visible: massive horse chestnuts, lindens, oaks and trees planted as early as the late 19th century.
In spring, the park is filled with flowers and young greenery; in summer, it offers the coolness of old trees; in autumn, it becomes a colourful gallery of reds, yellows and gold – one of the most beautiful autumn walking spots in Wrocław.
Bender Hill and the viewing gazebo
Bender Hill (approx. 131 m a.s.l.) is a small elevation located above the pond. At its top stands a wooden gazebo – reconstructed according to its historical appearance. Gentle, winding alleys lead to it, offering views of the terrace, the water and the surrounding old trees. It is one of the most photogenic spots in the park.

Fryderyk Chopin Monument
In the northern part of the park stands the Fryderyk Chopin Monument by Jan Kucz (2004). It is surrounded by a regular, orderly garden with straight alleys and green viewing frames – a contrast to the freer landscape composition near the pond. On a sunny day, it is a pleasant place to sit on a bench and take a short break from your walk.

The pond and Landsberg Terrace
The most recognisable part of South Park is the pond with a fountain and the stone Landsberg Terrace. The terrace acts as a natural viewing balcony: from here you can observe reflections of trees in the water, the fountain and autumn colours. It is also the most frequently photographed place in the park and a must-see spot during any walk.

Walking paths and the small bridge
The alleys of South Park lead through diverse park interiors: from wide, sunny meadows to quiet corners hidden in the shade of trees. There is also a small metal bridge over a canal — a modest but picturesque detail that makes the walking route more varied.
How to plan a walk in South Park?
A full walk through the park takes around 45–60 minutes, but if you plan to take photos or rest quietly by the water, it is worth reserving about 90 minutes. The best route includes:
- entering from Powstańców Śląskich Street,
- walking along the main alley towards the pond,
- Landsberg Terrace — a must-see viewpoint,
- a short climb to Bender Hill,
- walking towards the Chopin Monument,
- returning through the green meadows and shaded alleys.
Most beautiful viewpoints
South Park is an exceptionally photogenic place. The best shots can be taken:
- from Landsberg Terrace — panorama of the pond with the fountain,
- from Bender Hill — a view over the pond and old trees,
- by the gazebo — a mix of architecture and greenery,
- in the formal garden near the Chopin Monument,
- along the alley leading towards the central meadow.
When is the best time to visit South Park?
Each season looks different here:
- spring — fresh greenery and blooming flowerbeds,
- summer — the most shade, ideal for hot days,
- autumn — spectacular colours (the best photos!),
- winter — a calm atmosphere and good conditions for long walks.
Safety and lighting
South Park is well frequented and considered safe. Lighting operates according to the city schedule — earlier in winter, later in summer. Around the pond, the lighting is subtle, keeping the peaceful mood of evening walks.
