A small square with a lot to discover.
Plac Solny, or Salt Square, is a separate historic square in Wrocław’s Old Town, adjoining the south-western corner of the Rynek. It is known for its round-the-clock flower stalls. The square itself is free to visit; MovieGate and the OP ENHEIM gallery have separate admission arrangements and opening hours.

The flower market
Solny’s signature sight. Enjoy the seasonal bouquets; ask before photographing a seller or their stall.
The dragon fountain
An easily missed detail. Looking for the dragon’s head makes a small discovery game for children. Do not expect water to run all year.
Old Stock Exchange
A neoclassical building designed by Karl Ferdinand Langhans and built in 1822–1824. The façade is free to view; this is not a museum with regular tours.
OP ENHEIM
An art gallery in the historic Oppenheim townhouse. Check the exhibition programme and gallery hours, which differ from office hours.
MovieGate
Film props and set pieces in a former shelter. This is a ticketed underground attraction, not a public underpass.
The Little Spire
A wave-shaped obelisk by Adam Wyspiański. The city’s account connects it with John of Capistrano’s preaching and the persecution of Jews in medieval Wrocław.

Plac Solny has flower businesses open around the clock. One verified example is Fabryka Bukietów, whose own website lists 24-hour opening. This does not mean every stall is staffed at every moment or every flower is always in stock.

When you want to step inside

MovieGate
Mon–Thu 10:00–18:00; Fri–Sun 10:00–20:00. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
Standard admission PLN 40; concession PLN 35. Science shows have separate conditions and charges.
Tickets are sold in the underground venue. Groups of more than 15 require a reservation. Call ahead to confirm access if you have a pushchair or need a step-free entrance.

The gallery is on the first floor. A lift is available; ask staff for assistance. Quiet hours: Thursday 16:00–17:00. Exhibitions change.

Search for “Plac Solny, Wrocław”. From the Rynek, walk straight through its south-western corner.
On foot from the Rynek
There is no separate gate to find. Head to the south-western corner towards the flower stalls.
By tram or bus
Check a journey planner for services to the centre. Rynek and Narodowe Forum Muzyki are possible stops for your walk; routes and services can change.
By car
A practical option is the paid, 24-hour NFM underground car park at Plac Wolności 1, followed by a walk. Entrances are from Krupnicza and from Kazimierza Wielkiego via Zamkowa. Check the operator’s current tariff.
Small details that make a visit easier
With children
Flowers, the fountain’s dragon and comparing façades can fill a short walk. This is an urban space rather than an enclosed playground; watch for vehicles.
Pushchairs and reduced mobility
Allow for paving stones, kerbs and narrower passages near stalls. We do not claim the square is completely barrier-free. Check each indoor entrance separately; OP ENHEIM confirms a lift.
Toilets and a break
Do not treat the MovieGate entrance as a public toilet. Ask at your chosen venue; access for non-customers and charges depend on the establishment.
Coffee or a meal
There are food and drink venues around the square. Check the menu, prices and kitchen hours before sitting down; there is no common schedule for the whole square.
Evening and rain
Daylight suits the façades; after dark, try the lights and flowers. The square is outdoors. In rain, choose an open indoor venue rather than expecting a covered walking route.
Events and markets
Events can change the available space and walking passages. Check WroTU!’s current listings; seasonal attractions are not permanent features.
Why “Salt Square” when there are flowers everywhere?
Your walk follows an old trading square. Salt was one of several goods sold here, but it left its name behind.
13th century
The square was laid out after 1241 as the city was rebuilt and replanned. It was called the Polish Market; goods included salt, honey, wax and furs.
1822–1827
The Old Stock Exchange was built. After the unveiling of the Blücher monument in 1827, the square was renamed Blücherplatz.
After the war
The name Solny returned. The façades are not all reconstructions: the city records that the northern and southern frontages survived the siege undamaged, while the other two were rebuilt.
Today
Trade remains part of its identity. Flowers, an art gallery and the shelter exhibition give several perspectives on the same small space.
Plac Solny: questions before you go
Is there an entry charge?
No. The square itself is free to enter. Purchases, food and ticketed venues such as MovieGate and OP ENHEIM exhibitions cost extra.
Is Plac Solny open 24 hours?
It is an open public space without museum-style visiting hours. Restrictions on vehicle access do not mean the square is closed to pedestrians. Events can change the layout.
Can I really buy flowers at night?
Yes, some businesses operate around the clock. Fabryka Bukietów confirms 24-hour hours. Ask the seller directly about a specific stall, flowers and payment methods.
Is Plac Solny the same as the Rynek?
No. It is a separate square adjoining the Rynek’s south-western corner. You can easily visit both on one walk.
How long should I allow?
We suggest 15–30 minutes for the square, or about an hour with the surrounding streets. These are editorial estimates; indoor visits and meals need additional time.
What is underneath Plac Solny?
A former shelter houses MovieGate’s film props and set pieces. Its entrance is at Plac Solny 10a and requires a ticket.
Can I drive and park on the square?
Access rules vary, including night restrictions and exceptions. Check the transport section and local signs. For a longer stay, consider the NFM car park and walk from there.
Is it worth visiting with children?
Yes, for a short urban walk: look at flowers, find the dragon fountain and explore the façades. Watch for vehicles. MovieGate is a separate paid option.
